I interview a lot of people and here is some advice for people looking for a job:

Keep your email address professional. Do not have something like cutiepie54345@yahoo.com or musslehead@gmail.com. I really like your first name@your first and last.com. Like. dave@davepaladino.com. Its a great conversation starter.

Leave no gaps in your resume, if you hare unemployed and are not doing something right now and it has been more than a few months, volunteer. I think a gap of a few months are ok but more than that, start to get some activity under your belt.

Show up 5 to 10 minutes early for an interview. Do not show up more than 15 minute early. Get there early and wait in the parking lot if you have to.

Study the company webstite for about an hour before the interview, so you can talk intelligently about it during the interview. If the people interviewing you do not bring it up, talk about something you saw on the web site.

Dress professionally.

Bring a few resumes, so they do not have to have only one.

Ask a lot a questions about the job. Really understand what is expected of the employee.

Put down references that they might know. This can be tricky but at least some reference in the industry that they are in.

Make sure you put down your interests outside of work.

Have a section for community involvement. Quality is more than quantity.

Don’t take notes, just listen carefully.
