Rental market and capitalism

The rental market, by that I mean people looking for a place to rent, is really good.  There are two downsides. There are so many people looking that are not very qualified.  Meaning they do not make enough money to afford the property based on our ratios we have to look through a lot of applications that we turn down.  The other downside is the turnover.  It is simply amazing to me that people move so often.  Where are they going?  Do you remember the last time you moved and how much work it is?   I think our average tenants are staying a shorter time than ever before. I would guess that it is less than two years. In apartments it could be less than that

On another note. I did the Omaha Triathlon today. I might add that I placed ninth out of forty nine in my age group.  And the run was the most difficult 10K I have ever run. The race was well organized and well attended.  It was very expensive ,$150 to register although there were several discounts that made it as cheap as $100 depending on when you registered, on top of that you had to pay for a lot of the stuff that is normally free like water and Gatorade after the race.

Where are the days of the Griswold Iowa Triathlon in the 1990′s  were every granny within 20 miles came out with fresh baked goods. Or the half Ironman put on by the Lions Club at lake of the  Ozarks that had all you can eat pizza after the race?  I think greed has gone to far.  The problem is very few people are willing to put the time into something like a triathalon of this size just becasue its a way to serve people.

I am not sure how to get back to this.  Possibly we require that every high school student spend the first two years after high school serving people as a missionary or some other system of service. It would have to be in a town other than the one they are from and there would have to be some sort of system for these kids to have host families to keep the cost down. The odds of some great social reform such of this happening is zero.

Some days I love America and other days I think is is really messed up.  How long do you think America will be a country  300 years?  500 years? None of them in the past went on for ever.  That is a subject of another post. Think Roman Empire?? Do you really think Ceaser thought it would come to an end??
